I’ve waited thirty years to see this film, for thirty years I’ve known the name of Vittorio de Sica, the director. It needs to be seen with ‘Rome Open City’. Powerful stuff.
I would first read of ‘Bicycle Thieves’ from my copy of ‘The Cinema as Art’ a 40p Pelican book. I’d buy it when I was in digs circa 1976. I have it here. Written by Ralph Stephenson and J.R.Debrix. Hungry for knowledge in those days.
My pelican also tells me de Sica also directed ‘Umberto D’ which I shall have to try and find.
